Point Reyes National Seashore: Palomarin Trailhead to Alamere Falls Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The trail from Palomarin, on the southwestern edge of Point Reyes National Seashore, to Alamere Falls takes you through coastal bluffs with Pacific views and a Douglas fir forest filled with streams and quiet lily-covered ponds. You’ll pass two lakes, four if you hike at low tide. The highlight is 50-foot Alamere Falls. Trails Surface: Primarily doubletrack dirt trail, with a narrow, single-track trail to Alamere Falls. A rutted, steep shale and sandstone bluff heads to Wildcat Beach at the falls."

A beautiful hike to a very pretty waterfall. It's four miles to the falls along a fairly moderate trail with gradual climbing. The views are awesome all the way and the ocean is so gorgeous. Watch out for the beastly poison oak, though!

Rewarding and gorgeous! We ventured out on this hike not knowing where the trail would take us (poor planning??). We were amazed by how beautiful the entire hike was, and then were rewarded by the awesome waterfall. I'd do this hike again!

Detailed Trail Descriptions from Our Guidebooks

"The trail from Palomarin on the southwestern edge of Point Reyes National Seashore takes you through coastal bluffs and woodland with Pacific views. There are two lakes on the featured hike. The highlight of this hike is 40-foot Alamere tidal falls. During low tide, you can take the beach all the way back. Otherwise, travel back the way you came on gently graded trails. Bring plenty of water, binoculars for marine and coastal wildlife, and long pants to protect from poison oak on the narrow trail to the top of the falls."
