The trip to Lion Peak is an excellent outing along a particularly wild and wonderful section of the San Jacinto Range known as the Desert Divide. Here the mountains separate from the valleys and extend along a prominent ridge that produces some of the most stunning vistas in Southern California. The desert drops away south and east from the San Gorgonio Pass to the farthest reaches of the Salton Sea. The higher peaks in the San Jacintos stretch into the north while Garner Valley nestles between the magnificent Santa Rosas to the south.
