Detailed Trail Descriptions from Our Guidebooks

    Vicky Spring & Tom Kirkendall
"On a normal day at North Chalone Peak lookout, there is a panoramic view of Pinnacles National Monument to the north, the Diablo Range to the east, and across the Salinas Valley to the Santa Lucia Range to the west. If the day is exceptionally clear, it is possible to see all the way to the Pacific Ocean. (Note: Although this trail is open for hiking the entire year, temperatures soar to uncomfortable levels during the summer. If hiking during the warmer months, plan to begin your hike at daybreak and carry a minimum of two quarts of water per person.)" Read more
