The Sawmill Mountain and Mount Pinos area is a beautifully lush yellow-pine forest reminiscent of the southern Sierra or the highest reaches of the Angeles and San Bernardino National Forests. Situated nearly entirely within the Chumash Wilderness, this hike is a 4-mile one-way trip. Even with its ups and downs this is a fairly simple outing, but as a round-trip the elevation changes add up to a strenuous hike.

Great trip through the many faunas available descending and ascending the trial. After having mountain biked Mcigill trail to Mt Pinos the day before this was a full workout for my aching quads. Did not see one other hiker until I reached Pinos peak. Talked with a ham radio operator then turned around and did the easier trip back to Mt Able. Great day.
