Mattole Beach Trail

Petrolia, California

Mattole Beach Trail Professional Review and Guide

"This hike is a beach bum’s paradise. The trail begins at the Mattole River Estuary and offers 3 miles of beautiful black sand beaches, dunes, and tide pools that lead to an abandoned lighthouse. Along the way, there is plenty of secluded beach to comb. Hiking beneath the cliffs at Punta Gorda can be dangerous at high tide, so be sure to consult a tide calendar and plan your hike during low tide. This information usually is posted at the trailhead."
