"Helen Putnam Regional Park is located in the Petaluma countryside two miles southwest of downtown. The 216-acre park lies across rolling open meadows punctuated by mature oak savannah. The park also includes a shaded picnic area, playground, and a fishing pond. Hiking, biking, and equestrian trails wind through the hills, with panoramic vistas of southern Sonoma County and northern Marin County. Eight well-marked trails wind through the park. This route follows the park’s perimeter and visits Fish Pond." Read more

"Tucked in the rolling hills along the Sonoma-Marin county line, this loop climbs through grasslands to an oak-studded ridgeline with great views across west county ranchlands and east across Petaluma to Sonoma Mountain. A lovely bowl filled with meadow grasses and wildflowers crowns this trail loop. A local favorite that’s well worth a visit for out-of-towners, the route skirts a small pond on the way up and features wonderful views of both the Petaluma River valley to the east and west county ranchland to the west." "A favorite of local mountain bikers and cyclocrossers, Helen Putnam is a tiny 216-acre park hidden in the hills just outside Petaluma, in among the free-range cattle ranches, chicken and grain farms, and nice urban homes. The ride demonstrated here comprises the largest contiguous loop possible in the park, and it’s still quite short at 2.17 miles. But it is so much fun, with tight turns, five-inch- wide singletrack throughout, no extended climbing, and rapidly changing scenery, that it feels like a much bigger park. This is a great loop for multiple laps—just like Michael Jackson said, “Don’t stop ’til you get enough.”" Read more
