Doane Valley Nature Trail Professional Review and Guide
"This is a trail for inspiration. Here is the Palomar forest at its best, complete with a trickling stream that seems out of place amid the generally arid mountain ranges of far Southern California. You may be able to obtain from the park office a leaflet describing the different types of trees and shrubs seen along the route. Along shady Doane Creek, you’ll discover creek dogwood, wild strawberry, mountain currant, and Sierra gooseberry. At one point, the brochure calls attention to a massive incense cedar towering well over 100 feet. If you weren’t educated to its true identity, you might think it was a giant sequoia redwood tree."
