Russian Ridge Mountain Bike Professional Review and Guide
"At the top of the Santa Cruz Mountains, at the intersection of Skyline Boulevard and Page Mill Road, lie four separate open space preserves. Russian Ridge ,Coal Creek ,Monte Bello and Skyline Ridge preserves are all administered by the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District. When considered in total, the area of the four preserves forms one of the largest places in the Bay Area where cyclists, hikers and equestrians can sample the pleasures of the outdoors. A special benefit is that the preserves are already located at the mountain top, so extensive climbing is not needed to get there. The panoramic views come without the heavy price of a long climb. This ride tours both Russian Ridge and Coal Creek and covers about 11 miles of trails through mountain meadows and coastal forests. Substantial climbing is required, as the trails follow along rolling mountain ridges for most of the route. Whereas wide fire trails predominate in Russian Ridge, Coal Creek presents some challenges associated with narrow single-track. About 1 mile along Skyline Boulevard is necessary to make the connection between the two preserves."
