Lyons Ranch Loop Professional Review and Guide
"When fog drapes the lowlands, the 2,000-foot higher Bald Hills offer a reasonable hope of leaving the gloom behind in exchange for clear and sunny skies. The Lyons Ranch Trail follows the course of old roads back into history, when three generations of the Lyons family raised sheep on broad patches of lush prairie grasses. A less than 2-mile hike leads to Home Place, where the main Lyons home once stood. Only a barn and a couple of bunkhouses remain, along with a sheep shed a couple of miles away. History is not the only draw here, as widespread views of the Redwood Canyon Watershed and surrounding terrain provide stunning scenery. About as far away as you could get from the major tourists centers of the park, the Lyons Ranch Loop has a decidedly remote feel."
