Irvine to Santiago Loop Professional Review and Guide
"This scenic loop tours the diverse riparian and sage scrub habitats along Santiago Creek and the ridges overlooking them between Irvine and Santiago Oaks Regional Parks. Plenty of groundwater nourishes dense growths of willows and underbrush alongside the creek in this area, providing excellent bird habitat. Bring binoculars! At present, a maze of illegal trails forks off the main path. Rangers are planning to mark the official trail better, but be prepared for possibly confusing junctions. In a wet winter, the trails south of the Villa Park flood-control dam could be inundated and impassable."
