Fremont Canyon Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Fremont Canyon is a large and wild portion of Irvine Ranch Open Space with excellent opportunities for long-distance
hikes and mountain bike rides. It is open only during scheduled docent-led events. If you are interested in Southern California geology, don’t miss the outstanding geology hike.
The complete 14-mile loop follows a network of powerline service roads. Spurs branch off the loop into Weir Canyon and Black Star Canyon. The weather station on Fremont Ridge is a worthy destination for a 6-mile out-
and-back hike with 1,200 feet of elevation gain. During Santa Ana wind conditions, the station regularly measures 100 mile-
per-hour winds blasting over the shoulder of the mountains."
