Widow Lake Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Of the relative few who visit Widow Lake during the course of the season, most do so via the shorter 3.6-mile trail from Lassen Volcanic’s Butte Lake Trailhead. This 5-mile route, from the Cone Lake Trailhead on the outskirts of Caribou Wilderness, is definitely the road less traveled, offering hikers and backpackers an almost ironclad guarantee of solitude and serenity.
The trail passes through gently rolling forest for most of the way to the lake, which makes for easy and straightforward hiking. Well-suited for an overnight trip, Widow Lake offers quiet camping along with temperate swimming by midsummer. However, anglers should leave their poles at home, as the lake is devoid of fish."
