Terrace, Shadow, and Cliff Lakes

Terrace, Shadow, and Cliff Lakes Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Hike through a dense forest by a rushing stream to a large, lush meadow, then continue to three of Lassen Park’s most beautiful lakes. Along the way you’ll be treated to impressive views of Lassen Peak and numerous other high peaks and ridges. Shallow Hat Lake, a relic of Lassen Peak’s 1915 mudflow, will eventually become a meadow."

"Three picturesque lakes accessed by a trail less than 2 miles long would normally be a recipe for severe overuse. Although a camping ban has long been in place due to their proximity to the main park road, this trio of lakes sees far fewer visitors than one might expect. Lying in the shadow of Reading Peak, Terrace, Shadow, and Cliff lakes usually remain trimmed with snow until mid-July. Before then, the initial descent to Terrace Lake may be one big snow slide. With shuttle arrangements, backtracking could be avoided by continuing to Dersch Meadows, a one-way distance of 3.7 miles."
