Prospect Peak Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"In the past, a ?re spotter lived at the lookout atop Prospect Peak, scanning the wide-ranging vista from above the 8,338-foot summit. All that remains of the lookout today are some pieces of broken glass and decaying bits of lumber, but the view is still remarkable, despite a maturing and thriving forest along the rim of the young cinder cone.
After the ?rst half-mile, the ascent becomes increasingly sti?, but the trail passes through interesting and changing patterns of vegetation, with a pine forest, followed by a red ?r belt, and then an open, subalpine forest. The climb to Prospect Peak is one of the more physically taxing trails in the Butte Lake area, providing a reasonable amount of solitude and serenity for those up to the task."
