Fantastic Lava Beds Loop

Old Station, California

Fantastic Lava Beds Loop Professional Review and Guide

"This trail makes a brief stop-off at an impressive cinder cone volcano before circling the aptly named Fantastic Lava Beds and Painted Dunes. All of these sites showcase the park’s recent volcanic history. The path continues around Snag Lake and visits some gorgeous aspen groves before returning to Butte Lake and the trailhead. Terrain: Dirt path through heavy pine forests, volcanic cinder dunes, and riparian aspen groves."
