Reyes Creek Campground

Reyes Creek Campground Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Is there any sleep aid more potent than a rushing stream? The sound of rushing water always puts me to sleep quickly and keeps me there throughout the night, and that’s exactly what happened at Reyes Creek. Even though we were camped a good distance from the water, the murmur of the creek provided the perfect volume of white noise for peaceful sleeping.

This campground is open all year and features generously spaced sites on and near the creek, where you can fish for rainbow trout or splash about in hot weather. Set in a wide, shallow bowl, the campground is dominated by scrub oak, manzanita, pinyon pine, chamise, silk-tassel bush, and near the creek, live oak, cottonwood, and alder. Small boulders and sandstone formations are prominent in the surrounding low, chaparral-studded hills."

For a primitive camp right off the only car access (S-22) this is a handy place to camp. Especially if you need a real toilet (2)! This is also a wild camp spot if you're doing the desert stretch of the San Diego Sea to Sea Trail. If you don't want to carry all your gear, this is a good place for someone to meet you and have the steak on the grill all ready for you! You don't need a 4-wheel drive either.
