San Diego River Channel- Ocean Beach Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Welcome to lands’ end, a scenic delight at the westernmost point of the San Diego River Trail. Follow a nearly level bike path along two berms connected by Sunset Cliffs Boulevard Bridge over the San Diego River Channel, constructed decades ago to control rare, seasonal flooding of San Diego’s namesake river.
Known worldwide as a birding hot spot, this saltwater/ freshwater transition zone, known as the Southern Preserve, borders the southern portion of Mission Bay. This brackish estuarine habitat is refreshed twice daily by tides, providing food and shelter for countless resident and visiting waterfowl, shorebirds, and waders, many passing through on flights north or south along the Pacific Flyway."
