Central Camp Road is an easy graded dirt and deteriorated paved road that originally served Central Camp. The trail starts on paved Beasore Road (FR 7) north of Bass Lake. It travels through sugar pine and ponderosa forest, passing the start of High Sierra #18: Shuteye Peak Trail. After 6.1 miles, it passes the turnoff to Gaggs Camp USFS Campground, which is also the southern end of the more difficult High Sierra #16: Browns Meadow Trail. Gaggs Camp is a pleasant campground set in the pines alongside Sand Creek. There are nine sites, mainly suitable for tents. A fee is charged. Special Attractions: Angling and boating on Bass Lake; Central Camp logging headquarters site. This trail is graded dirt but suitable for a normal passenger vehicle. It usually has gentle grades, is fairly wide, and has very shallow water crossings (if any).
