Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes Preserve to Mussel Rock

Nipomo, California

Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes Preserve to Mussel Rock Professional Review and Guide

"The Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes Preserve sits among a range of towering, rolling sand mountains. This hike follows the isolated shoreline along the sandy beach, parallel to the highest sand dunes on the west coast. The north end of the preserve is bordered by the Santa Maria River on the county line. At the mouth of the river is a wetland area, providing a habitat for migrating shorebirds and native waterfowl. The south end of the dune complex is bordered by Mussel Rock, a 450-foot promontory jutting out into the sea."

This is a great hike that is overlooked by most. Hike once a year and always wonder why I don’t do it more. Always more impressive it is clear out with out much marine cover. When you get to mussel rock, hike to the top. It is worth the extra effort.
