Point Defiance Loop

Point Defiance Loop Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This short loop hike through the foothills starts by crossing a historic covered bridge, and visits the drowned confluence of the main Yuba and South Yuba rivers. From the visitor center (elevation 570 feet), walk to the bridge between walls of dry-piled stones, built to discourage wagons from sneaking past the toll booth. Walk through the southern portal, framed by large trees, and you are instantly transported to another century by the pleasantly musty smell of the timbers. Windows in the long span open to modest views up and down the South Yuba."

This trail was really easy. I took my three kids on it with me. My 5 year old complained about the incline of the trail by the lake but she's 5. The river and the lake were beautiful. We loved the covered bridge.

Nice hike to the lake. There is a small campground with picnic tables and pavilion at lakeside for a short break.

This was a great hike - nice views of the river - dogs were able to get into the water (kept on leash as the river was moving pretty fast).
