North Bloomfield–Bowman Lake Trail Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"This easy, graded road travels from Nevada City past the northern shore of Bowman Lake to finish on Northern Sierra #21: Henness Pass Road at Jackson Meadow Reservoir. From Nevada City, the trail drops steeply along a small paved road to cross over the South Yuba River at Edwards Crossing. The South Yuba Trail, an enjoyable hike along the South Yuba River, crosses the road at this point. This moderate trail is 15 miles long and takes hikers east to Washington. The river is stocked yearly with rainbow trout. The road turns to graded dirt after the bridge, and it climbs to the top of the ridge, where Northern Sierra #26: Alleghany Trail heads off to the north. The main trail bears east and passes the developed South Yuba BLM Campground, which has 16 campsites in a shaded gully at the site of some old mine workings. A small fee is charged. Special Attractions: Bowman Lake and Jackson Meadow Reservoir; Malakoff Diggins State Park; Historic town of Graniteville and Graniteville Cemetery. High-clearance 4WDs are preferred, but any high-clearance vehicle is acceptable. Expect a rough road surface; mud and sand are possible but will be easily passable. You may encounter rocks up to 6 inches in diameter, a loose road surface, and shelf roads, though these will be wide enough for passing or will have adequate pull-offs."
