Westwood Hills Park

Westwood Hills Park Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Napa’s city park in the Westwood Hills is a nice little spot right at the edge of the urban area. With a mix of scenery that ranges from eucalyptus groves and bald hills to oak forests, enough variety is here to keep the trails interesting. Numerous trails, both official and unofficial, weave through the park, offering a number of possible trips. This hike stays around the perimeter and combines scenic forests with nice views.

The trail winds through canyons and over hills and boasts some great views of the Napa Valley. All of this is located just a short distance from the thriving bustle of downtown Napa. Though the park is not large, it is riddled with trails, both official and unofficial, that offer numerous possible hikes. This route stays near the perimeter of the park and samples the various types of terrain in the Westwood Hills."

"Westwood Hills Park covers 110 acres of heavily wooded hills in west Napa, less than one mile from Highway 29 and minutes from downtown Napa. The city park, opened to the public in 1976, provides three miles of interconnecting fire roads and footpaths. Dirt trails wind through lush coast live oak groves, eucalyptus-filled canyons, and grassy meadows dotted with buckeye trees. The paths lead to ridges with mossy boulders, picnic sites, and expansive overlooks of the city of Napa, lower Napa Valley, the Mayacamas Range, and the Vaca Mountains." Read more

"From the highest point in this neighborhood park, the views reach east across the Napa Valley, south to Mount Diablo, and west to Mount Tamalpais. This neighborhood park offers about 3 miles of formal trails and a number of social trails that present opportunities for exploration (and for coming into contact with poison oak. Follow the main track through the park and you’ll climb easy fire roads to a summit overlook with spectacular views—with no risk of an itchy rash later on. The views from the summit bench are panoramic. On a clear day you can see down into Napa and east into the Vaca Mountains, south down the Napa River toward San Pablo Bay and Mount Diablo, and west to the wooded coastal mountains and Mount Tamalpais. An enviable home on the summit blocks some of the views, but they are wonderful just the same." Read more
