Oak Tree Trail Professional Review and Guide
"The Santa Rosa Plateau is home to some of the last remaining Engelmann oaks. The majestic trees can live up to 300 years, and their many twisting limbs and graygreen leaves distinguish them from the more common coast live oaks. These spectacular oaks prefer to grow on mesas and foothills at least 20 miles inland from the ocean. Construction of subdivisions has led to the destruction of most of the native Engelmann oak woodlands, especially in the hills above Pasadena and Pomona. The Oak Tree Trail makes a short loop through a fine stand of Engelmann oaks along Cole Creek."
