Horsethief Creek Professional Review and Guide

"Between Highway 74 and Toro Peak is a high bench covered in chaparral and sliced by rugged canyons. Horsethief Creek flows through one of these canyons throughout the wet season. Alongside the creek is a small campsite shaded by cottonwoods. The trip to the creek is one of the few moderate hikes in this remote region of the Santa Rosa Mountains. According to legend, rustlers made their hideout here in the 19th Century as they preyed upon honest folk in San Diego and San Bernardino."
