This short hike through pine woods and windblown chaparral takes you to Monument Peak, smack-dab on the mountain-desert ecotone. A small cluster of communication antennas rests on the peak, a testament to its strategic geographic position. Few hikers come this way; as a result, the route is obscure and requires a bit of navigational attention.

This was an easy hike but the view at the top was outstanding. The "ecotone" was obvious to see as you look at the desert below from the pine trees at the top.

A great little hike with a cool payoff-the radio equipment at the top of the peak. See the peak of Mt. Laguna off to the side (with the microwave antennas)along with a very clear view of the eco-tones mentioned. On the other side of the mountain see a breath taking view of the desert.
