The hike to Yaquitepec is straightforward these days—since you’re not hauling in supplies and water, as the Souths were obliged to do many a time. From the Ghost Mountain parking area, follow the trail that climbs in switchbacks up the rocky slope to the south and turns east along the ridge to the Yaquitepec site. Little remains of the old homestead except some of the cabin’s walls and part of an ingenious water-collection system. The view from the site clearly was—and still is—impressive.
