The shoulder of Monument Peak cuts off the distant view to the east and the south, but the panorama from north to northeast is excellent. If you know the way to Foster Point well, try coming up here on a moonlit night when the desert down below glows ghostly white. The panoramic, tree-framed view from the reservoir includes Little Laguna Lake and a long stretch of Laguna Meadow. The water in the lake rises, falls, and vanishes according to the vagaries of the weather. In spring, the brimming surface can be like a mirror, reflecting the greens and blues of the surrounding forest and sky. In the southwest, ridge after forested ridge leads the eye out to the distant, haze-shrouded coastal foothills.
