Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Lookout Mountain, a seemingly minor bump on the south ridge of Mount Baldy, plays an important role in the history of science. In 1915, a fire lookout was constructed on the summit to take advantage of the commanding views.

The historic trail from Bear Flat was wiped out in the 2008 Bighorn Fire and is now overgrown. The firebreak trail from Cow Canyon Saddle was gated off around 2016. Now the most reasonable approach is to climb the southwest ridge from a saddle reached from Bear Canyon. This steep and rough route is recommended only for adventurous mountaineers."
