Monterey’s Cannery Row and Around the Peninsula to Carmel

Monterey’s Cannery Row and Around the Peninsula to Carmel Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Nestled in the lee of Point Piños, Monterey’s waterfront is one of the few coastal areas protected enough to give beginners access to an ocean paddling environment. Here lush
forests of giant kelp harbor a world-renowned diversity of sea life, with near-guaranteed sightings of seals, sea lions, and sea otters. And each winter it’s not uncommon for paddlers to spot migrating gray whales.

On a few lucky occasions kayakers have even seen pods of orca and humpback whales near shore. In addition to wildlife viewing, this area is excellent for skills development. Sea conditions change gradually from the lake-like calm inside Monterey Harbor to the full exposure of the open Pacific as you paddle beyond Point Piños."
