"Asilomar State Beach (meaning “refuge by the sea”) encompasses 1 07 acres at the windswept, southwest corner of Pacific Grove on the Monterey Peninsula. The state park has a one-mile strip of sandy beach, an exposed rocky headland with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, tidepools, a natural dune preserve, cove beaches, a wind-sculpted Monterey pine and cypress for- est, sheltered overlooks, and boardwalk paths. The park includes the Asilomar Conference Grounds, a national historic landmark dating back to 1 91 3."
