Trout Lake

Trout Lake Professional Review and Guide

"The hike along the banks of Trout Lake in the Shasta Valley Wildlife Refuge is a short but incredibly scenic outing. The area around the lake is classic high desert but beautiful. With views of mountains in all directions, the scene is crowned by the glacier-clad glory of Mount Shasta. The hike at Trout Lake is great any time of year but especially in the winter, when the high country is still buried under snow.

The Shasta Valley stands in remarkable contrast to the high, alpine regions immediately to its east, west, and south. The valley is a classic high desert. Sparsely covered with junipers in lieu of pines and firs, the gold hues of the Shasta Valley give notice that this is a very different landscape."
