Detailed Trail Descriptions from Our Guidebooks

"Barber Peak is the dramatic volcanic formation overlooking the popular Hole-in-the-Wall Campground. Constructed in spring 2008, the Barber Peak Loop Trail circles the peak and offers a moderate hike conveniently located beside the campground and ranger station. It follows a combination of old dirt roads and newly constructed trail. From the west end of the picnic area above Banshee Canyon, find the signed Barber Peak Loop Trail to the right of the Rings Loop Trail. Follow this footpath north along the base of Barber Peak’s dramatic orange and brown cliffs. These cliffs are composed of Wild Horse Mesa Tuff, a form of volcanic ash welded together during the eruption of Woods Mountain."
