Bring your fishing pole for some slow paddling through long ponds, a few riffles, and some impressive gravel-mining operations. Signs warn that the Hickman Spillway sometimes releases flows to the Tuolumne River. The spillway is 7 miles downstream of Roberts Ferry. Below Roberts Ferry the geologic flood channel widens as the bluffs retreat from the river. After a few gravel bar riffles, you come to the first of several haul road bridges for gravel-mining operations. Gravel miners no longer quarry directly from the river, nor are there any cables to impede your float trip.
