Terrace and Shadow Lakes

Mineral, California

Terrace and Shadow Lakes Professional Review and Guide

"Cupped at the northern edge of a narrow basin, with nothing but the sky and the forested summits of faraway peaks visible over the basin’s lip, Terrace Lake appears to sit on the edge of the earth. This is far from the truth, but the lake’s location is high and airy, a perch like that of a raptor on a cliff. The lawn-like meadow that rims the lake’s south shore invites hikers to rest for a spell, and perhaps even take a dip in the clear, shallow waters. Highlights: Each of these two lovely lakes offers great views of Lassen Peak, as well as opportunities for wading and, for the hardy, swimming."
