Sulphur Works Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Follow the gently rising grade of the Main Park Road northbound from the visitor center through mostly open terrain, enjoying the pleasant scenery as you parallel the West Sulphur Creek drainage. Continuing up the road, you should be able to spy steam emanating from the various fumaroles scattered about the Sulphur Works.
However, the typical rotten-egg smell, produced when hydrogen sul?de escapes into the air, may be noticeable before you actually see any steam. In next to no time, reach the bridges across West Sulphur Creek and arrive at the Sulphur Works. While viewing the features of this geothermal area, make sure you remain on the road and do not approach any geothermal features—visitors have been injured here in the past. When your visit is over, retrace your steps to the visitor center."
