Heart Lake via Glassburner Meadows

Heart Lake via Glassburner Meadows Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Considerably longer than the Digger Creek Trail to Heart Lake, this is for hikers and backpackers who don’t mind the extra distance in return for a bit more solitude (although Heart Lake doesn’t receive that much use from either of these trails).

Heart Lake is surrounded by trees but unlike at many of Lassen Volcanic lakes, Brokeoff Mountain can be seen towering above the treetops from the west shore.

Walk northeast up the initially steep road, which soon mellows to more of a moderate climb through open forest and shrub-covered slopes, with intermittent views north to Brokeoff Mountain. Reach the wide turnaround at the trailhead, and then follow singletrack into a thicker forest of lodgepole pines, Western white pines, and firs."
