Big River Professional Review and Guide
"Character: This easy paddle close to Mendocino, follows a tidal estuary into a placid, intimate stream bordered by North Coast forests. Marine Mammal Protection Act applies. The Big River can be paddled year-round. However, during much of the summer, strong afternoon winds blow upstream from the ocean. The winds make the return paddle difficult. So, spring and autumn are favored paddling seasons. Then the Big River is a delight to paddle upstream during slack water or an incoming tide."
