Manly is a treat. To extend the ride, cross over Road 730 into the Woodlands Trails system. Head up Eagle Nest, left on Old Jeep to the top. Old Jeep has about 100 yards of hell that you may be walking. Take a right down Big Tree being sure to hit the single track section to your right....pay attention as the trail has a soft shoulder. Then, right up Road 730 to the climb back to the top. The Forest History Trail is a nightmare...going back up Manly is tolerable.

Great ride. There are some technical parts but I'm an intermediate rider and had a blast. Don't be intimidated by the expert rating. One of the last bridges that is described as a "well-constructed" bridge has partially collapsed. Still crossible, but failing. Otherwise, directions are spot-on.

Excellent single track trail ride, we would not rate it as expert as long as you are comfortable with your bike you should be fine. However the two mile 1,000 foot climb will really put you to the test, especially when the temps are over 100. The ride is beautiful and a lot of fun. We plan on hitting the trail again when we return to Mendocino. We definately recommend checking it out.

Don't be intimidated by the "expert" rating of this trail. I consider myself an intermediate rider, and found this trail quite rideable. It is aerobically difficult, but technically moderate -- mostly because of a few nasty switchbacks during the steepest parts. It's very smooth trail that hauls rear downhill for the first half, then has a leg-busting climb for the second. Not very varied, but fun. the trail is smooth with not too many technical obstacles. This makes the descent fast and the climb a great workout. Bring bugspray -- tons of mosquitos. Recommend hardtail -- I rode a full suspension based on the "expert" rating, and it was overkill.
