Two trails emanating from Grover Hot Springs State Park provide short and easy trips for hikers of all ages. Actually the two trails used to be a single path before a flood wiped out a bridge over Hot Springs Creek, severing the link between the two sections. Rather than rebuild the bridge and eventually risk the same fate, the north section became the Falls Trail and the south section the Sawmill Creek Trail. The Falls Trail, the more popular of the two, follows a gently graded path across the large grassy meadow in the heart of the park and then upstream to a short but picturesque fall on Hot Springs Creek. The Sawmill Creek Trail is a short, easy path that follows the fringe of the meadow into the forest and then proceeds along the tumbling creek to the site of the former bridge. With the bonus of the nearby facilities, recreationists can enjoy a picnic lunch following their hike and then a refreshing dip in the hot springs pool. For information on the hours of operation of the pool and fees, call 530-694-2249.
