Crab Cooker

Crab Cooker Professional Review and Guide

"Another bathtub-sized pool fed by a natural hot spring in the Eastern Sierra. A little less popular than other tubs in the region, the Crab Cooker is another great place to soak. The Crab Cooker is another nice place for a bath, similar to the Hot Tub and Shepherd Hot Springs. It is a little shallower than the others, but big enough for several people. It also provides beautiful scenery. Primitive, except for construction of the hot tub and the piping of water into it."

Remote area, surrounded by fields with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Easily regulated water temperature, short walk on path, friendly people all made for a wonderful bath. The only problem and this was a relatively big problem, were the mosquitoes! Like fools we went to the hot spring at dusk (yes we know better now !) There were hundreds of the little buggers just waiting to land and feast on any exposed flesh. Undressing and running into the pool got me four bites on my ankles. While sitting in the warm, but quickly heated to hot with a turn of the valve, water the beasts would land on heads and shoulders. Quickly dressing while wet, relaxed, soft and warm was not the best ending to an other wise pleasant experience. Go if you are in the area, but definitely NOT at dusk!
