Rising Sun Trail Professional Reviews and Guides

"The hike up Solstice Canyon leads to Tropical Terrace, the ruins of a home built in the 1950s and destroyed by fire in 1982. The stone courtyard, garden terraces, stairways, and exotic tropical plants still remain. Near the reins is Solstice Canyon Falls cascading 30 ft. over sandstone rocks. The hike up canyon on the Rising Sun Trail traverses the cliffs overlooking Solstice Canyon and the Pacific ocean. The return route parallels Solstice Creek."

"This rollercoaster-like ramble over the hillsides overlooking lower Solstice Canyon is a nearly complete tour of the entire Solstice Canyon Park. It’s a sweaty affair if the day is sunny and warm."

The tail is well maintained. Warm, wear sunscreen. It is a tough climb up on the Rising Sun Trail. The popular Way is to take Solsitce canyon up to the waterwall (tropical terrace) then climb up to the rising sun trail and view the ocean on the way down. Apox. 3 hour hike for enire loop good workout!
Very sad thing... I read this hike and went for only to discover the entire canyon this hike goes into was just burnt to a crisp the other week with some very unfortunate people loosing their homes. I dont think this site will ever be the same. There is nothing except ash left on the land. There is another great hike all the way up corral canyon road that you can hike all the way to Kanan from. you can also look at the remains of the old Buddha temple there.
The trail was worth the climb on a hot February day, at one point opening up to the Pacific Ocean and views of Catalina Island. The trail is a bit rough, but not bad. If you're sheepish coming down a rough hill, then I recommend reversing the hike, go in on the service road, enjoy the waterfall and the tropical terrace. Trails were crowded, but not overly so. At one point it was just me, and the Pacific and the chirping of birds!
