Point Mugu State Park: Thornhill Broome Campground Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Thornhill Broome is the only campground in SoCal that permits camping right down to the waterline, which means you can set up your tent anywhere on the beach, unlike at McGrath or El Capitán, which only allow camping within sites above or behind the actual beach. The attraction of Thornhill Broome’s genuine beach camping more than justifies the six-month waiting period needed to book one of the 68 sites during peak season. From a geographic perspective, Thornhill Broome Beach lies between two points— Point Mugu to the northeast and a small point west of Sycamore Cove—and spans roughly 1.5 miles.
The beach is rocky and the surf is usually very rough and exposed to open ocean swells, so on all but the flattest of days, swimming is advisable for experienced swimmers only. At the southeast end, opposite the ocean and across CA 1 (the Pacific Coast Highway), is a large sand dune."
