Bulldog Motorway Professional Reviews and Guides

"Any utterance of the word “Bulldog” among SoCal local riders will surely elicit groans, sighs, and maybe a warning or two. Climbing the Bulldog Motorway is masochism for all but the most advanced riders but a rewarding challenge nonetheless. Like Sycamore Canyon, Malibu Creek State Park offers plenty of distractions for nonriders and has shorter, less challenging rides, which makes this another great place to drag the whole clan."

As posted from previous members this trail is all you could want and more! definitely bring plenty of H2O and a couple power bars or a lunch! Trail is a bit difficult to follow at times as not posted real well, also from reading trail route on web site the rights are lefts and the lefts are right. otherwise you'll be in for a bit more pedaling than already at hand. Took a little over 3 hours-15 minutes to complete loop, may have been a bit quicker with correct signage. Started at 330 p.m wouldn't want to start any later than that for sure. Bring light jacket for downhills because you should have worked up quite a sweat on the 4.5 plus mile climb up bulldog roadway (like a jeep trail) on everything from fire road to loose gravel and some slick-rock. crazy elevation for so cal ride in Malibu. very rewarding trail after completion; but also must warn that mountain bike should have some suspension and bring an extra tube or two, plenty of rocky ascents and descents in over 70% of the ride. just a little over 15.5 miles without added turnoffs. 17.2 with bonus ride if you want to call it a bonus.

Definitely a grueling trail, i walked my bike for a lot of the way, mostly bc its about 2000 feet of elevation gain. A real torture test, but so much worth it once you get to the top. It gets a little confusing at the top, where you do a section of paved road across the ridge before taking a left onto the trail again. Absolutely stunning views, you can see the pacific ocean off the top, breathtaking canyons, with almost 1,000 ft drops below your pedals right off the trail. The other reviewer meant "dead end" because the trail ends at a gate into an off limits industrial facility. A sign tells you go go back up into a singletrack that spills out onto Malibu Canyon Road where you bike the rest of the way on the highway or cut into i think Tapia Park to get back to the parking lot in Malibu Creek Park. Be warned, this is a 16 mile loop, bring plenty of water, and some energy bars. Our first time here took us about 5 hrs to complete the loop. Also get familliar with the trails here, one wrong turn on a fireroad here spills you out several miles away from your car, we were worried we couldnt get back at one point. This trail is a lot of fun, but i dont think i'll do it again considering the torturous climb. Maybe after a few months of cardio training....awesome trail

Great trail, and make sure you bring some energy bars and electrolyte, and also pay attention to the little trail almost at the end, otherwise you get to a death end.
