Arroyo Seco Trail Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"It is the view from the crest of the Santa Lucia Range that inspires hikers to make the long climb from the valley floor to the top of the ridge. Although you cannot see all the way to China, on a clear day you can see freighters heading in that direction. The Arroyo Seco Trail climbs along the Arroyo Seco River to the crest of the range, where it meets the North Coast Ridge Trail. Except for an absence of bridges, this is an excellent trail. However, since this area was swept by fire in 1985, storms bring down a new batch of dead and dying trees every winter. Brush grows rapidly in the burned area, particularly the chamise, manzanita, and prickly leaved ceanothus. The Forest Service clears out the trail as often as possible, but expect some rough going in the spring."
