Detailed Trail Descriptions from Our Guidebooks

"The Arroyo Seco flows eastward from the Santa Lucia Range towards the Salinas Valley. The forested headwaters of the creek begin deep in the Ventana Wilderness between Black Cone and Junipero Serra Peak. The Santa Lucia Loop traverses a steep mountain slope high above the scenic Arroyo Seco Gorge. The trail begins at the Arroyo Seco Campground and The Lakes, two small lakes in an open meadow along the Arroyo Seco. The trail leads to the Santa Lucia Adobe, an adobe brick building with a cobblestone foundation built in 1 908. The restored adobe (a ranger station until the late 1 920s) resides on the banks of Santa Lucia Creek. The return makes a loop back on the unpaved, vehicle- restricted Indians Road that also traverses along the steep slope." Read more
