Spooner’s Cove to Point Buchon and Port San Luis

Spooner’s Cove to Point Buchon and Port San Luis Professional Review and Guide

"The coastline from Montaña de Oro around Point Buchon to Port San Luis is remote, rugged, and essentially roadless for 15 miles, making it a mini Lost Coast. With landing beaches few and far between—and likely nonexistent in big seas—it is as exposed as any stretch of seashore in the state.

Not only does this trip promise just about every coastal hazard in the book, you also have to detour a mile out to sea around a nuclear power plant guarded by Homeland Security. Scattered with caves, arches, and sea stacks, however, it is an advanced kayakers’ playground, and a great challenge for serious coastal paddlers."
