Oats Peak Trail

Los Osos, California

Oats Peak Trail Professional Review and Guide

"The Oats Peak Trail climbs from the ocean by Spooner's Cove to the second highest peak in the park at 1373 feet. The trail crosses chaparral, thick brush and grassy meadows under the shadow of Valencia Peak. There are great views into the Coon Creek drainage and the folded interior canyons and ridges of the mountainous backcountry. To the north are views from Morro Bay to San Simeon."

Great trail! Very well maintained, with great views from the peak. Stop to check for ticks often, and best hiked once the morning fog has cleared, around noon.

This is an excellent loop trail with spectacular views. Green hills and beautiful scenery. Ocean views are amazing. Start at the Coon's Creek Trailhead. Hike Coon's Creek Trail to 2nd junction which is Oat's Peak. The Oat's Peak trail will head North, winding up steep slopes to finally reach the summit. Continue on the trail as it heads Northwest back towards the ocean. Stay on the trail towards Valencia Peak. Trail winds up North side of Valencia, then take Valencia Peak Trail right, decending back to trails leading back South toward Coon's Creek parking lot. Bring a map of the trail systems. Beautiful hike!
