Wildhorse / Zaca Peak Professional Review and Guide

"Here is a good trip for strong cyclists, or moderately strong cyclists with an excess amount of energy. It is an out-and-back ride and covers 18.5 miles round-trip. there are some long, steep hills and some sections that may bring the words "roller coaster" to mind. Good bike handling skills are needed to negotiate rough ascents and descents. Catway and Zaca Ridge Roads are unpaved (hardpacked dirt and rock base) four-wheel-drive roads. They are in good condition, although the steeper hills have some loose rocks and gravel. The road out to Zaca Peak is in fair condition, with loose rocks and ruts. Exceptional views of the Santa Ynez Valley and the San Rafael wilderness Area, combined with good roads, challenging terrain, and an abundance of wildflowers, make this an excellent ride."
