Detailed Trail Descriptions from Our Guidebooks

"This is a 10-mile romp around the Capitancillos Ridge, which rises up out of a wealthy urban area south of San Jose. Comprised mostly of smooth fire road, this ride isn’t going to draw on your technical riding abilities too much, but you are guaranteed to get a good workout. The loop can be conveniently shortened and routed to pass many of the historical quicksilver (mercury) mining sights if, say, you’ve got your youngsters along. If you’re looking for a longer ride, you can connect into neighboring Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve for a serious adventure." Read more

Though not technically challenging , the trails were pretty rough. Lots of large rocks, a moderate number of ruts some from running water and some from bike tires. My 9 year old had to walk some of the climb, and had to go slowly on the downhills due to the general trail roughness. The descriptions and details in the guide are all still accurate.

Nice hike. Used it to prepare for Half Dome. Good climb at the beginning, which woke up my legs. Enjoyed the view of the Guadalupe Dam. I was able to see the entire city. Great hike for those who want to just get outside and enjoy themselves.
