Piru Creek Professional Review and Guide
"Thanks to the California Department of Fish & Game, as well as Cal-Trout, the Sierra Pacific Fly Fishers, and other conservation organizations, Piru Creek has developed into a great urban wild trout fishery, boasting approximately 6,000 trout per mile. Located only an hour north of Los Angeles, this wonderful little stream allows you to catch the morning bluewinged olive hatch and still be home by the afternoon. Piru Creek contains many deep pools, slow-moving runs, riffles, and pocket waters. The best fly fishing is found on the 1.5-mile wild trout section, where short fly rods and long leaders are the norm. Types of Fish: Rainbow trout. This fly-fishing chapter describes the "where, when, and how" for fishing in this area. It includes a full-page map and information on the known hatches, suggested equipment to use, the best flies to use, season, limits, nearby accommodations, and camping."
